Guest Speaker - Jema Hewitt
Jema Hewitt was designer and maker at Kindred Spirits Bridal-Originals, revitalising corsetry and historical dress as part of the “corset renaissance” during the 1980/90’s/2000’s goth scene. After a career as a costume maker in film/theatre and TV, She returned to academia, gaining an MA in pattern cutting, and is currently a lecturer in fashion at De-Montfort University Leicester, alongside studying for her PhD in gendered robotics at Loughborough.
She has taught corsetry to many amazing artists along the way, in both the UK and the USA and is always excited to share her knowledge and admire the artistry of others. You may also know her as Miss Emilly Ladybird, whose books on steampunk jewellery and afternoon tea have won accolades around the globe, and in which persona and fabulous costumes she may be found at events, exhibitions and cocktail parties!
She loves all things colourful, luxurious and historical, and she lives in a little rose covered cottage in Derbyshire owned by her cat.
